When the three organizations congregated on the presentation of Future Mouse by Marcus Chalfen, they each planned their own agendas separately, but with a similar or common intention of protesting against the Future Mouse presentation. This basically shows that groups with diverse interests can form a liaison of sorts when it comes to issues pertaining or infringing on their beliefs or policies.Īs the title depicts, the differences are put aside because they all have “white teeth”. The thematic significance that the author brings out is the way that different families of mixed ethnicity actually strive with matters of heritage and legacy and try as they may, escaping from the past is virtually impossible.Īnother theme that is depicted is that differences in cultural or religious beliefs do not necessarily mean that unity is elusive in issues that affect all of them in general. On the other hand, there are the Jehovah Witnesses who do not approve of the research being carried out on Future Mouse and have staunch rooting in their beliefs. 6/24/2023 0 Comments The duchess amanda foremanMost of what I know about 18th century history is about the American Revolution this book is about what was happening politically on the other side of the Atlantic around that time. Georgiana Spencer (great-great-I-forgot-how-many-times-great aunt of Lady Diana Spencer, yes, THAT Diana Spencer) was 17 when she married the Duke of Devonshire, uniting two rich and powerful British families in the late 1700s. I mostly think of 17th century women as standing around in giant dresses with enormous powdered wigs, but she was actually a political powerhouse. Georgiana was a really interesting woman. It was also one of the reading selections from our Jane Austen book group that I never read.Īnyhow, once I finally started reading this, I quite liked it. After completing Wild Swans, I was inspired to tackle more nonfiction (specifically, book #11 for the TBR Pile Challenge.) I'd seen the movie adaptation of The Duchess a couple of years ago, but never got around to reading the book which I'd picked up for a paltry $1 at the library Friends sale. 6/24/2023 0 Comments Chosen by kf breeneBut to trade her to Xandre, the warlord desperate to add her to his war machine, would be to give up their entire way of life. The following is a list of real people who appeared in Kerouac’s novels, along with the different names Kerouac gave them.Īnsen was big influence on several of the Beats. Their personalities were all unique, and after learning a few key facts, we can take a look at Kerouac’s novels again and remove the masks, revealing the true participants in the fables of the Beat Generation. Writing in dangerous times, Kerouac’s publishers demanded he change names to avoid lawsuits and prosecution, and given the furor surrounding ‘Howl’ and Naked Lunch, it’s probably for the best that he did.īut nowadays we are surrounded by books, websites, and documentaries about the Beat Generation, and anyone that takes an interest is soon provided with a view of the players in the movement. When the girl turns up murdered in Griffith Park, it's Pike who gives a nerdy medical examiner valuable assistance and when it turns out that the girl's death is linked to several other murders, it's Pike who is charged with killing the chief suspect. It's Pike who breaks in on Cole's reunion with Lucy Chenier, his lawyer/broadcaster lover who has just moved from New Orleans, to ask for Elvis's help in tracking down the missing daughter of a rich and powerful Hispanic businessman.
